All in Good Time

This phrase is used to encourage people to be patient and wait quietly. I might be quiet but I don’t think I am very patient.

My focus has been on this past Olympic cycle… all about the Olympics in Korea. I prepared and trained for years, and when I fell short, I was crushed. I can honestly look back now and say I wasn’t ready. Oh I’m not saying I didn’t train hard enough, what I’m saying is I needed more experience in huge events. I needed to compete at a World Championship first. So I refocused on winning the Nationals so I could get to my first Worlds and we did it! We were so close to getting a medal but fell short again… really testing my patience now.

But the season didn’t end after Worlds, we had another Slam just 2 weeks later. It was time to refocus again, believe, be patient and work even harder. This time “All in Good Time” happened to us and we won a HUGE Grand Slam event, actually the most prestigious of them all, the Players Championship. After a roller coaster of a season it was finally our moment, our time and it was amazing and well worth the wait! We have one more Slam at the end of the month, the Champions Cup in Calgary and then our competitive season comes to an end.

Then what?  That’s where it gets a little tricky. People are always asking what else do I do? What is my real job? I personally feel a lot of pressure to get this “real job”. I have an honors degree in International Business that I should probably put to use. Just recently I applied for a real job and yeah!! I got hired! But then I had to turn it down because I could not commit to the schedule they wanted. All in good time I guess… but I don’t feel that this is my time for that “real job”, maybe never.

We train like professional athletes but don’t get the same pay, so I do need to do something to pay the bills. I decided to invest and renovate a “Fixer Upper” with my family’s help of course!

Only 2 properties fit my strict criteria of cheap hahah! One was a Chapel and the other was a Church… hmmm divine intervention? I bought the Chapel because it was closer to my family (free labor!). I love to build things and renovating this Chapel into a singe family home is a dream job for me! Demo Day is also my second favorite thing to do, I can’t wait!

Of course I’ll continue my training and preparation for competition. My number one goal is still my team and curling. Over the next four years I’m going to be working really hard and building on the experiences of this year. I want to put myself in the best possible position to not only win the Olympic Trials but also medal at the Olympics. I might not have been ready this time around but I will be the next time.

All in good time and I believe Beijing 2022 will be my time.

  1. I’m so glad to hear you’re aiming for 2022. USA Curling Rules! The best is yet to come. You have an excellent plan.

  2. Hi Jamie … Thanks for giving us a snapshot into your life. I sure hope that the Good Lord will bless you by allowing you to realize all your dreams. When I was in the Coast Guard, we’d respond to emergencies (plane crashes, major oil spills, etc…) some would freak out during crises … I’d tell them that most of the time, they’re only expected to do what they’ve already been trained to do, so just relax and do it. Same for you … you know this game and you play it well. In those high profile tournaments, it’s still the same game. In a sports psychology book called “Think Like A Champion”, the author talks about how at game time, we need to let our subconscious take over or our conscious mind will distract us. He’s right. The conscious mind will see the bright lights and the size of the crowd … or stature of our opponents. Those things can distract us, tune them out and just play the game that you’re already good at. To steal from Nike “Just Do It.”
Success is already finding you … dreams are nice, goals are nice, plans are nice — just don’t forget to be happy.
    You’re in my prayers.
    Most Kindly,
    Steve
P.S. If you see a tweet from Steve @ Be The Other Half — that’s me. That’s my latest brand new venture … trying to encourage people to be cool to each other. Our motto actually comes from the Bible … “If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” Romans 12:18
    That said … Peace Jamie.

  3. Whoa–just realized I could comment right here, instead of going to Twitter! Oh well, I’m double-dipping (sorry). Thank you for taking the time to write such an insightful blog Jamie. All of your efforts to engage with your fans through social media make it so easy to cheer for you–and while I imagine it can be a burden for you at times, I hope you realize how much we appreciate your efforts! 🙂

Btw–I got an idea for that “real job”…I think HGTV has an opening, what about “Fixer Upper, Canada–starring Jamie Sinclair”?!?!?

      1. Sweet, let’s make this happen!! I actually went to HS with Nicole Curtis (“Rehab Addict” show on HGTV) and still see her occasionally when she comes back home to Detroit. If/when I see her this summer, I’ll pitch the idea to her…because I’m sure she NEVER gets random pitches for shows from people! 😉

Enjoy your summer Jamie, and thanks again for sharing your exciting journey…destination Beijing!!

  4. One day I helped someone I knew that was remodeling/flipping a building. Guess I was their “free labor” that day, though beer was part of it. Not totally free, I suppose.

Few things I have ever done have relieved stress and frustration more than demolishing an entire wall in a building. I’d do it more often if there were an opportunity. I slept better than night as well.

  5. Hi Jamie,

I first found out about you and your Olympic dream through your YouTube channel when I was looking to understand the rules of curling so I can be an informed viewer when it was on for this past Olympics. Then YouTube autoplayed your Thanksgiving and your Greece vlogs and I was hooked watching. Hence I not only became a fan of curling but also a fan of Jamie Sinclair.

I cheer you on in your endeavors to follow your dreams and I agree that it’s gonna happen “All in Good Time”. And if chapels and churches are needed along the way, then those things (God and prayers) can only help right? 🙂

    Best Wishes!!!
    Vincent
