The Goode Chapel

Almost two years ago I was looking to buy a “Fixer Upper”. I have been renovating with my family for many years and wanted something to call my own. Armed with a bit of savings, I went on a quest to find the perfect place. Reality hit pretty quick and hard; houses were way out of my price range.

Out of the blue a neighbour says “why don’t you buy the Chapel?”. What? I didn’t know the little country chapel was even for sale; no sign, no agent, no advertisement. Off I went on a mission now to find someone in charge.

I was soon connected with the elders of the chapel and had a meeting set up on site. It felt more like an interview to me. They told me some history of the Chapel and asked me lots of questions about myself. The Chapel has a strong history in the community and has a “Historical Interest” designation from the city, but recently it has fallen on hard times. I sensed that they wanted the chapel to go to someone who would take care of it. I think the deal was sealed when my brother started to play the church piano and music once again filled the air.

On the day of the sale, the elders met me at the Chapel. They said a prayer, were the first to sign the guest book and gave me the keys. I made a promise that when the renovation was done they would be the first invited back to see it.

Stay tuned for more stories about the renovation!
